Open-plan kitchen extensions, light and space.

The kitchen extension is the project that changes how a family actually lives in the house. Convert Extend builds open-plan kitchen-diners with bifold or sliding doors, roof lanterns and underfloor heating, designed around how you cook, eat and gather rather than around the old wall that happened to be there.

What's included

Every kitchen extensions job, covered properly.

Scope scales with the project, but these areas are the spine of any kitchen extensions job with Convert Extend.

01 / 04

Bifolds & Sliders

Wide glazed doors that open the kitchen onto the garden and pull daylight deep into the plan. We set them at the right cill height and detail the thresholds flush where you want a seamless step out.

02 / 04

Rooflights & Lanterns

Roof glazing is what stops a deep-plan extension feeling dark at the back. Flat rooflights, lanterns or a vaulted ceiling with structural glazing, sized to the room.

03 / 04

Kitchen Supply & Fit

We can take the kitchen itself from design through supply and fit, with the plumbing, electrics, tiling and worktops co-ordinated as one job so the trades are not tripping over each other.

04 / 04

Underfloor Heating

Wet underfloor heating under tile or engineered board frees up the walls for units and glazing, and is the comfortable, even way to heat a large open-plan space.

Frequently asked

Common questions, straight answers.

Should I extend or just refit the existing kitchen?

If the issue is layout and storage, a refit may be enough. If it is space and light, an extension is the answer. We are happy to give an honest view at the first visit rather than sell you the bigger job.

Do you design the kitchen as well as build the extension?

Yes. We can run the whole thing, the structural extension and the kitchen design, supply and installation, so there is one team and one point of contact from drawings to the day you cook in it.

How do you stop a deep extension feeling dark?

Roof glazing. Rooflights and lanterns over the rear half of the plan bring daylight into the middle of the room where side windows cannot reach. We plan the glazing alongside the layout, not as an afterthought.

Can we keep using a kitchen during the build?

We set up a temporary kitchen, usually a run of units with a sink and the fridge and microwave, so you are not without cooking facilities while the new space is built and fitted.

What flooring works best in a kitchen extension?

Large-format porcelain tile and engineered timber both work well over underfloor heating and run seamlessly from old to new. We will talk through the options against your budget and how the room is used.
